Please call before you travel. This was announced in August 2024. We have kept the page because the details are useful, but a clinic that runs weekly can change — ring 0755 450 0400 or 92381 71911 to confirm Thursday consultations are still running and that the timings below still hold.

What was offered

The County Hospital ran a free health consultation every Thursday, open to people who might not otherwise see a doctor about a problem until it had become serious.

During the consultation you would see a qualified doctor who examined you, answered your questions and advised on what to do next.

The two clinics and their timings

General Medicine

A general assessment for adults of any age.

  • Thursdays, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
  • New patients only

Orthopaedics

Screening for bone, joint and muscle problems.

  • Thursdays, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Why the hospital ran it

Two of the commonest reasons people arrive at a hospital later than they should are cost and uncertainty about whether a symptom is worth troubling a doctor with. A free Thursday slot removed the first and gave people a straightforward answer to the second.

It also fits how the hospital is set up. Pathology, digital X-ray and ultrasound are all in the same building, so if a consultation turned up something that needed investigating, it could usually be done the same day rather than at a second appointment somewhere else.
