When a newborn needs the NICU

  • Premature birth, before 37 weeks
  • Low birth weight, under 2.5 kg
  • Breathing difficulty or respiratory distress
  • Infection or a congenital condition
  • Jaundice needing phototherapy
  • Birth complications, or a newborn needing surgery

Breathing support

  • Mechanical ventilation and CPAP therapy
  • High-flow oxygen therapy for respiratory distress syndrome

Incubators and thermal care

  • Temperature-controlled incubators for premature babies
  • Kangaroo Mother Care to support bonding and stability

Jaundice treatment

  • High-intensity phototherapy
  • Exchange transfusion for severe neonatal jaundice

Feeding and neurological care

  • Tube feeding and intravenous nutrition
  • Lactation counselling for mothers
  • Brain function assessment after birth trauma or seizures

What to expect on admission

  • Emergency admission is available 24 hours a day
  • A neonatologist assesses the baby on arrival
  • Continuous monitoring with NICU equipment
  • Regular counselling and updates for parents
